U/R Snow Control

I figure if Fugie can harrass everyone with the deck he wants to work on for states so can I :)

U/R Snow Control

4 aeon chronicler
2 arcanis
4 stalking yeti
2 bogardan hellkite

4 skred
4 ancestral visions
2 remove soul
4 rune snag
3 cryptic command
2 faerie trickery
2 cancels

25-27 Lands

Simple, hopefully effective... questions, thoughts, comments?

Dies to aggro?

Probably need the full set of Scrying Sheets and Mouth of Ronom to have enough removal.

I think you go 4 faerie trickery rather than a 2/2 split, since ft is almost certainly better for states, unless some random Faerie juggernaut pops up before then.

I agree with CBG, but what you realy need isn't more spot removal, but mass removal. You can pyroclasm out the board, but you need something main. Trying to trade 1 for 1 with threats is a good way to lose for any blue/x control deck.

I must agree with TS. U/W has been traditionally good because of WoG. U/B isn't uber good because of Urborg/Tendrils, but because of Damnation. You need 1-2 Sulfurous Blast in the deck, as you can use it at both speeds, and it catches 2 and 3 butts. Plus, it can be timed right to kill snakes and ascetics and gives faeries the finger.

Hmmm, fingering faeries? Hot.

Agreed that trickery is better... right up until something i want to counter says changeling on it.

im not sure if im going to be able to play a full set of scrying sheets.... that just seems like way to many. the mana will probably include some number of deserts, mouth of ronom, and urza's factorys which is alot of colorless lands for a 2 color deck without steam vents. factory and desert also cuts down on the number of snow permenents.

no mass removal needed. and white weenie and black weenie were the most played decks that ptq season. and this deck plays real removal. + bogardan helkite is mass removal... granted 8 mana mass removal but it still is. pyroclasm is definitly going in the board though. feel free to argue though.

i would also probably main deck pyroclasm over sulf blast.

agreed finger faeries is hot.

4 shivan reef
4 mouth of ronom
1 vivid crag
1 vivid creek
2 tolaria west
1 urza's factory
2 dreadship reef
2 molten slagheap
1 kher keep
2 terramorphic expanse
1 academy ruins
3 snow island
3 snow mountian

in a perfect world those would all say snow... but its not a perfect world... any suggestions on the mana? or should i just cut skred for something? the yeti is good even if i don't have a snow land to power it up. i also wanna find room for one trisk to combo with the ruins.

I'd cut Skred for Incinerate. Skred will never be better than a Shock until you have Trike online or are flashing in a Hellkite.

I would also board Delays as they are 1U - hard counter target Counterspell.

my question than becomes how do i kill tarmagoyfs?

Defender in Exile said...

If a Skred kills a Tarm, you never had anything to worry about.

That has to be the worst manabase I have ever seen in my life.

What can you get colored mana out of the turn you play it?

10 cards, four of which ping you! You are freaking nuts. If I was gonna build a manabase for your original list, I'd go with something like...

4 Scrying Sheets
4 Mouth of Ronom
11 Snow-Covered Mountain
11 Snow-Covered Island

Or if you want the tutoring...

4 Tolaria West
12 Snow-Covered Island
1 Scrying Sheets
4 Mouth of Ronom
1 Academy Ruins
5 Snow-Covered Mountain

How to kill Tarmogoyf...Giant Chronic, skred, skred+yeti, skred+mouth, remove soul, flashfreeze, plus some stuff in Lorwyn, I'm sure.

i ment if i cut skred and ran the mana base i propose with all the fancy things. like i think all the specialty lands are better than skred. im just not sure if i should swap in incinerate. i would prefer to change it to something that can always kill a tarmagoyf... just no idea what that is.

I played this deck for awhile with a better manabase, ie: Steam Vents, and as cool as Skred is, it just doesn't do the job. In the upcoming metagame, fast aggro will run rampart, at least at states. People have become infatuated with the cool little elves and kithkin enough to play sub-par decks, that beat only slow control decks with no sweepers. And Goyf, he's big, and like CBG said, if Skred can kill a Goyf, you were already winning the game.
