Eventide Additions to the Cube

Today's post comes in the form of a poll. For each enemy color pair, rate the top five cards. What are the criteria you should use to evaluate these cards, you ask? Let's go with a mix of Constructed power level and Limited playability. A composite of both formats, if you will. This exercise is of course for determining the new class of additions to the Cube, a Limited format with power levels closer to Constructed. A gander at the current list of multicolor cards reveals that only about three cards from each enemy color pair will probably make the cut (some pairs will have more, others less), but listing the top five will help to delineate which cards are best over all. Post your picks in the comments. I'll do so too, in case you want to preserve your own opinions prior to seeing anyone else's.

Mono Colored Monoliths
There will also be a few mono colored cards that break into the Cube from Eventide. I expect this list to be brief, given the overall power level of the Cube. Here are the mono-colored Eventide cards I think might have at least a shot.

White
Archon of Justice
Ballynock Trapper
Cenn's Enlistment
Endless Horizons
Hallowed Burial

Blue
Cache Raiders
Glen Elendra Archmage
Wake Thrasher
Black
Ashling, the Extinguisher
Raven's Crime
Soul Snuffers
Soul Reap
Umbra Stalker

Red
Flame Jab
Puncture Blast
Heartlash Cinder
Outrage Shaman
Stigma Lasher

Green
Aerie Ouphes
Bloom Tender
Primalcrux
Talara's Battalion

Some of these are dubious, but I wanted to cast a wide enough net that I wouldn't be accused of missing great cards. I still probably have. The only cards that seem guaranteed are Archon of Justice, Puncture Blast, and maybe the Wake Thrasher or Glen Elendra Archmage. Eventide seems really juiced in terms of White mono-colored cards, and I expect to see more of them make the cut. I think Ashling, the Extinguisher also looks like an absolute blowout, even if she only connects once, but I've never played with her, so I'm not making any predictions.

In non-Magic news, what I had chalked up to a bad joke over at Penny Arcade is apparently either deadly serious or a long, Family Guy-esque drawn out punchline that ceases to be funny long before it ends (I'll guess the latter). Witness "Bogey Golf, Part Two of Thirty." (Totally NSFW.) So I can only assume that they've finally gone insane, since the punchline is not only boring but also not at all about golf. Wait, that last thing is a positive.

(CW)TS out.

Okay, dog fucking is a little bit funny.

1Unmake
2Divinity of Pride
3Deathbringer Liege
4Stillmoon Cavalier
5Gwyllion Hedge-Mage
Not the strongest color pair. You could make an argument for Pyrrhic Revival above the Hedge-Mage.

1Figure of Destiny
2Balefire Liege
3Nobilis of War
4Rise of the Hobgoblins
5Duergar Hedge-Mage
Duergar Assailant, Spitemare, and Moonhold would all be interesting, for different reasons, but the Leige and Nobilis of War are juiced and would not be ignored. Figure of Destiny will be the poster child for making aggro playable again. The Hedge-Mage seems like great enchantment and artifact hosing in non-green colors, in case you’re wondering.

1Dominus of Fealty
2Call the Skybreaker
3Nucklavee
4Noggle Hedge-Mage
5Mindwrack Liege
God this color pair is terrible. Cackleburr could get on the list but I don’t even know if more than one of these cards will be good enough to make it in the Cube, so it’s kind of moot.

1Snakeform
2Spitting Image
3Murkfiend Liege
4Overbeing of Myth
5Selkie Hedge-Mage
Invert the Skies is an honorable mention.

1Creakwood Liege
2Sapling of Colfenor
3Cankerous Thirst
4Deity of Scars
5Doomgape
Desecrator Hag would have gotten the nod if we weren’t trying to REDUCE the recursion in the Cube. Doomgape is a pet card, but still amazing if you can get to seven.

B/W
1. Stillmoon Cavalier (this guy is the Morphling of knights)
2. Deathbringer Liege
3. Divinity of Pride
4. Unmake (it is just another removal spell)
5. Gwyllion Hedge-Mage (this guy is the best of the Hedge Magi, IMO)
This or R/W are the strongest color pairs from EVE

R/W
1. Figure of Destiny (hands down one of the strongest one drops of all time as far as beaters go, Also is never a dead draw because you can just power him up)
2. Balefire Liege (sick in Mono-Red all your spells are Lava Spikes much?
3. Rise of the Hobgoblins (this card has seen play in some Zur decks, definitely has value)
4. Spitemare (this card is a beating if they can't kill it with what they block it with, it is hell for a weenie deck to come up against, because he is a guaranteed 2-for-1.)
5. Duergar Hedge-Mage (utility like this in colors that aren't green are always a plus)

U/G
1. Snakeform (one of the best removal spells printed in a while, and it cantrips to boot.)
2. Overbeing of Myth (with all the card draw in the cube this guy should be better than he is in the current limited environment, at least from what I have seen of him)
3. Murkfiend Liege (Vigilance in green, now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout)
4. Cold-Eyed Selkie (If you can get it in there with some P/T boosting enchantment/equipment this guy can be a powerhouse. my pet card from the set)
5. Spitting Image (6 for a clone is alot)

B/G
1. Creakwood Liege (obv)
2. Deity of Scars (I like him)
3. Sapling of Colfenor (the card draw is hit or miss, the indestructible and solid body makes it a fine card)
4. Hag Hedge-Mage (He isn't amazing, but still a solid card)
5. Rendclaw Trow

U/R
1. Dominus of Fealty
2. Nucklavee
3-5. why bother

Doesn't really seem to be too much to argue about, here. Tabasco likes the Gwyllion color combo and I don't, but our picks are almost identical. Ditto with The Captain's. We'll just have to sit down with the Cube's multicolor section and see which cards look better than what we already have in there. Thanks for the input! Let's see if we can meet soon to discuss additions/cuts.

i've included these monocolored cards in my cube and they've proven themselves:

Wickerbouroug Elder - Excellent artifact/enchantment killer on legs
Flickerwisp - aggressive flyer with an excellent CIP effect for a weenie deck
